The u-pack seals are widely used parts. Regularly utilized in pneumatic and hydraulic pistons, the versatility of its U-shaped design, along with the ample variety of materials and compounds available for their manufacturing, allows them to tolerate a wide variety of different conditions.
As you can appreciate in the following drawings, the variations in symmetry, lenght of walls, among other features, bring each u-pack a particular performance.
Let's look at the following examples :

The
long-lipped parts tolerate higher pressures.

The
short-lipped parts are more suitable for higher friction and lower
pressures.

The
asymmetrical parts facilitate being fixed to the rod or piston
or to the element they were designed for.

Among the variety of materials for the manufacturing of u-seals, we can mention natural rubber, NBR and Viton®. In some cases, we cas also use fabrics to reinforce the elastomeric compound chosen, mainly for gaskets that endure high impact and extrusion.
